Releasing Your Inner Voice

Blossoming from the Inside-Out

Have you been searching for answers, knowing that you have a voice inside that hasn’t reached its full potential?  Do you feel that you have special qualities that make your singing unique, but have been told that you need to fit a certain mold, in order to perform?

Singing can be therapeutic, but what if every time you sing a note, you are feeling judged and unworthy?

Unleash your natural, unique voice with the fundamentals of Bel Canto technique.  Discover tools to unlock the mental and physical blocks in the way of your sound.  Maghan McPhee will help you develop your unique vocal strengths and help you blossom from the inside-out.

Your story

You love to sing, and yesterday everything felt incredible!  Today, however, you wonder where that amazing feeling went. You find yourself out of breath too quickly, you can’t quite reach the high note of your piece and you feel that you’re working harder than others to make sound at all.  You feel that if you make a mistake, or a bad sound, you are not really a singer. Maybe you need to jump in the shower to steam some more, have a spoonful of honey or be on vocal rest for a few days.  But you don’t have the time or the energy to try yet another “bio-hack” and frankly, you’re at your wit’s end with trying to figure this out on your own.

I’m Maghan McPhee, a performer, voice teacher and executive director of BIIMA (Breno Italy International Music Academy).  I know what it’s like to feel that my voice has let me down, and I’ve come very close to giving up my dream of singing.  Searching for the answers, I spent so much time and money, traveling to study with the top coaches in my field in the US, perfecting my technique and coming to a deep understanding of my instrument.

However, even after a great lesson, where I would be implementing all of the technical advice, my throat was still sore and tight.  My teachers couldn’t hear or see what was wrong, but I knew it FELT wrong.   It wasn’t until I addressed my physical and emotional blocks that I was able to implement the techniques I learned and have been able to let go of the throat tension and tightness in my diaphragm.  I’m so happy to be able to share my knowledge and experience with those who have ability, but can’t quite find freedom in their singing.  I KNOW that it is possible for everyone to sing with ease, because I’ve been through it and came out the other side.

Over the past decade, I noticed pain and tension in my jaw, tongue and throat when I would sing, leading me to believe that there was something wrong with me.

I truly feel that I learned more from Maghan in a year than I did earning my bachelor’s degree in music. If I could do it all over again, I would take the money I spent on tuition, and invest it fully in Maghan.

Is this for you?

Are you someone who has a need to sing, to better understand your voice?

Are you looking for a community of like-minded people to grow your artistry and expression, to talk about your love of singing and make music together?

Are you someone who has had lessons before, and felt judged or inadequate vocally?

My sessions are created with the intention of the yoga studio: when one attends a yoga class, they’re not looking for an end result.  They are just happy to be there to breathe, have an intention and steady their mind, which in turn creates a mind, body and spirit connection.  With regular practice, they physically see improvements and have a better sense of wellbeing.

My training is similar.  I encourage the singer to let go of  trying to sound a certain way.  Once we release our need for the end result and stay present in the “doing”, we will discover more sound and ease than we ever thought to be possible.

When we begin to find the sound that is waiting there for us to discover, we find a whole new sense of accomplishment and trust in ourselves that we can take into our schooling, our work lives, relationships and performances.

I’ve been teaching for 17 years and I continue to be amazed how quickly a singer with possibly little voice or confidence can turn it around and find freedom in their sound.  Even singers with many years behind them can find more ease and more voice, once we take away the pressure of what we THINK we should sound like, and begin to ALLOW what is there. This is when the true voice is expressed and I continue to be amazed how much beauty of tone and sound can come from each and every singer I’ve met at every level of music making.

Working with Maghan has been a transformational experience for me.   I had lost a lot of self confidence in singing. From our first meeting, Maghan created a safe environment for me in lessons.  With Maghan’s expert knowledge and guidance, I’ve developed the skills to sing pieces that were previously out of my reach, I’ve regained my confidence as a singer, and I’m now flourishing as a performing artist.
